Event Description
Time to brush the dust off your chops and get ready to jam with the Chicago Jazz Philharmonic! On Tuesday, February 12, musicians of all genres and backgrounds will explore their own musical “voice” through ensemble performance, easy and fun composition, and expressive improvisation. Never improvised before? Don’t know how to “sing the blues?” Don’t remember the last time you picked up your instrument? No problem! Participants will learn the basics of the blues and work together, with the help of “Combo Coaches,” to create new songs through storytelling activities. Each participant will explore what’s in their personal musical “toolbox” and how musical skills and knowledge, of any kind, can be used to create unique, expressive musical stories. The workshop will end with a full group performance and jam session celebrating the diverse ensemble of “voices” and the power of music to bring people together. Light refreshments will be provided. Sarah Pietlicki Chicago Jazz Philharmonic Program Manager Sarah Jane Pietlicki has been the Program Manager at the Chicago Jazz Philharmonic since 2015, overseeing a team of 15 teaching artists bringing programming to over 1,000 students in the Chicagoland area.
